Working on a project in Miami’s seaside brought its fair share of challenges. Relentless salty sea spray. For anyone living near the coast, corrosion is inevitable. Imagine starting your day with a stuck sliding door. Horrible!
Why does it happen?
Corrosion thrives when metals come into contact and is accelerated under the influence of salty, ionized water. This environment sparks an electron transfer process that eats away at the metal. In a coastal setting, combining metals in close proximity is like handing corrosion a free pass to wreak havoc.
Engineering a Solution
To combat this, we went back to basics, reducing and isolating metals as much as possible, heat sealing them in the profile core and adding multiple protective measures:
1. Synthetic Rollers because they don’t allow metal parts to touch
2. Baptized Metal Parts to reduce the metal surface exposure
3. Heat welded joints because is the only way to avoid joints corrosion
Whats all the fuzz about?
This project highlights the importance of prioritizing the micro climate that these products will be used. Coastal conditions demand thoughtful solutions, and in Miami, we proved that beauty and durability can coexist.
